Hollywood-ikoni Bette Midler twiittasi maanantaina, kuinka hänen mukaan naisilta ollaan riistämässä oikeuksia. Hän osoitti samalla huolensa USAn kuuluisaa aborttioikeudenkäynnin päätöstä kohtaan.
– Maailman naiset! Meiltä ollaan viemässä oikeudet kehoihimme, elämäämme ja jopa nimiimme. Meitä ei kutsuta enää ”naisiksi” [women]; he kutsuvat meitä ”synnyttäjiksi” [birthing people], kuukautisvuotajiksi [mestruators] ja jopa ”vaginallisiksi ihmisiksi” [people with vaginas]. Älkää antako heidän pyyhkiä teitä tietoisuudesta! Kaikki maailman ihmiset ovat velkaa teille, Midler sanoo twiitissään.
Twiitti aiheutti heti kohun.
Ihmiset huomauttivat Midlerille, kuinka myös muilla kuin naisilla on kuukautiset, he synnyttävät ja heillä on vaginat; myös transmiehet ja muunsukupuoliset pystyvät näihin asioihin.
Eräs Midlerin fani kertoi, kuinka hänen sydämensä musertui twiitistä. Hän kertoi, kuinka abortin vastainen liike pyrkii pakottamaan sukupuoliroolit jokaiselle ihmisille, myös transmiehille.

No. Don’t fall for the anti-trans panic fake nonsense. No one is erasing women. In a few small healthcare cases where appropriate they are using trans inclusive language. That’s all.

We're absolutely not being erased. Inclusive language is being *added* to include those who have female anatomy but don't identify as women. We (cis women) are not being erased and can absolutely call ourselves, and be referred to as, women. The rights you're being stripped of /1

Except that’s not what’s happening. Inclusive language does not harm anyone. In textbooks and the broad sense, yes, those terms are coming up and seeing more popularity. But if a pregnant cis woman goes in to give birth, she’s going to be called a mother, not a birthing person.
